Summary Who says Ultra-Rib can only be used as a direct bury pipe? Not Civil Constructors from Nashville! Ultra-Rib is being used for above ground applications. More than 900 feet of 21" Ultra- Rib was used for by-pass pumping for a sewer rehab project in Harpeth Valley U. D., outside Nashville, Tennessee. The contractor, new to Ultra-Rib, has enjoyed the toughness of the pipe, as well as the light weight and easy installation. The workers mentioned how easy Ultra-Rib is to cut and bell, and liked the great gasket system.
The by-pass, installed beside a creek, could have been disastrous for the environment had Ultra- Rib sprung a leak. Good thing Ultra-Rib is Ultra Durable, and did not break or leak! The pipe was actually pulled apart and used again.
The conditions to which Ultra-Rib was subjected to are certainly not recommended for any gravity sewer, but Ultra-Rib was up to the task. No joint restraint devices were used, standard metal fencing posts were the only restraints, and there was no special bedding on or around the pipe. The by-pass pumps generated approximately 20 psi of pressure on Ultra-Rib, a non-pressure pipe. Ultra-Rib was deflected as much as 10º in some locations. The contractor pulled the pipe apart after two weeks in service and didn't break a single piece of pipe.
This same size Ultra-Rib is also being used by Civil Constructors, now fans of ETI, on the new NFL stadium in downtown Nashville.
